NHS funds Inteliports in project ‘OSPREY’ for medical deliveries between Portsmouth and Isle of Wight

February 27 2021

The COVID-19 pandemic brought unprecedented challenges, but it also accelerated innovation in numerous sectors. Among these innovations, the use of drones for contactless deliveries emerged as a game-changer.

As part of the OSPREY project partnered with Apian, Windracers and the NHS we are helping to deliver critical healthcare to the Isle of Wight which has faced significant healthcare supply challenges due to its geographical isolation. Supplying medical facilities, especially in emergency situations, has been a logistical hurdle for years. Traditional ground-based transportation methods often face delays, making timely deliveries of critical medical items a concern.

Inteliports is making sure that the automated ground systems required for all drone services will allow for seamless integration into NHS business operations. The successful implementation of drone systems on the Isle of Wight will serve as a blueprint for future applications of drone technology in healthcare supply chains. As the technology evolves, we can anticipate its expansion to other regions and additional use cases in the healthcare sector.
